Who we are
What are DFID's aims?

DFID aims to contribute to sustainable development by improving the livelihoods of poor people in developing countries through reduced poverty and suffering. Efforts to increase food and agricultural production are implemented in a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable way. Under its Renewable Natural Resources Research Strategy (RNRRS 1995-2006), DFID’s objective is to generate and promote the uptake and application of new knowledge on improved management of renewable natural resources such that the livelihoods of poor people are enhanced.

What is the Animal Health Programme?

The Animal Health Programme (AHP) – one of ten RNRRS research programmes – was a competitive grants programme aiming to increase the productivity of agricultural systems by improving the supply and value of animal products as well as the contribution of livestock to crop production.

AHP included both strategic and adaptive research. It supported the research process from technical development to adaptation and promotion of results so that developmental benefits could be clearly assessed and implemented in target countries.  Managed by the Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (CTVM) on behalf of The University of Edinburgh, AHP was closely associated with DFID's Livestock Production Programme (LPP).
